First Mid Bank in Paris has honored Mayo Middle School with the task of remaking the mural displayed in their drive through area. After Miss Arp designed and completed the sketch, she drew it on the five 4x5ft plywood boards. Students begin painting the boards this week! They are so excited. Pictured above is the initial sketch - can't wait to see how it turns out!
The Art Abandonment Project was started by an artist who found himself unable to sell his work because he was so attached to his creations. He began “letting go” by leaving his precious pieces in random public places with a brief note. This inspired many more artists to join in on creating and abandoning, thus “Art Abandonment” was born (that’s the name of their Facebook page if you’d like to check it out). After discussing the principles of Art Abandonment, students were each given a paint stick on which they could create a positive image. Some included famous quotes, others made up their own quotes, and each student aimed to make theirs happy and colorful. They learned a lot about painting (like how difficult it is to paint small words, as opposed to writing them with a Sharpie) and I think they definitely grasped the concept because many of them were proud of their piece and mentioned they’d be jealous of whoever found it! They really enjoyed dispersing them around town. I'm very proud of their efforts and attitudes!
